At the foot of the Magaliesberg Mountains close to Hartebeespoort, visitors will find the Ann van Dyk/De Wildt Cheetah and Wildlife Centre. This is a captive breeding facility for endangered species like cheetas. Their success has resulted in the birth of close to 600 cheetah cubs. Visitors will also be able to spot some brown hyena’s, Suni antelope, red and blue duikers and the African Wild Dog. Visitors can book in advance for this 6-hour tour through the facility and see the animals being fed.
Another wildlife attraction is the bush baby and monkey sanctuary and elephants walk. Here visitors can walk next to our fellow primates as well as next to African elephants. The keepers of these animals are always present to ensure visitor’s safety at all times during this close to nature experience. Lunch is served at the game park’s lodge.
With so many attractions and activities, a weekend is probably not enough to explore the beauty of the Magaliesberg Mountains and the surrounding areas, but it is definitely worth a spot in your winter break away bucket list.
